The Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, A.N. Shamseer, stated that there are no plans for the immediate disqualification of expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. Shamseer mentioned that no formal complaint has been received from any legislator to take action against Mamkootathil. He clarified that disqualification proceedings can only begin if a sitting member of the Assembly files a complaint.
Shamseer emphasized that a formal complaint from at least one MLA is necessary for the matter to be referred to the Privileges and Ethics Committee, which has not occurred yet. He also dismissed the notion that Mamkootathil’s arrest in a rape case has affected the dignity of the Assembly.
The Speaker highlighted the importance of respecting women in society and cautioned against generalizing individuals based on the actions of a few. Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) conducted a reconstruction of events involving Mamkootathil at a hotel in Thiruvalla related to the third rape case against him.
