Kerala’s ‘drug lady’ Rincy Mumtaz, aged 32, has been arrested once more for her involvement in supplying drugs to young actors and film sets in Kochi. The arrest has exposed details of an organized drug network operating in the city. Rincy and three associates were apprehended at a hotel near Nedumbassery airport while allegedly selling MDMA, with 3.58 grams of the substance seized.
The arrested individuals, identified as Abhijith Purushothaman (24), Shelju (36), and Mohammed Rishad (27), were found with drugs hidden in zip-lock packets within clothing. The group was operating from a hotel room near the airport road, where a surprise raid led to their capture. Additionally, equipment for drug consumption, such as glass tubes, was also discovered during the operation.
Investigations into the case have revealed a well-established drug network in Kochi, with Rincy being a significant supplier of MDMA and cocaine to individuals associated with the Malayalam film industry. Despite being recently released on bail in a similar case involving MDMA, Rincy is accused of using her Instagram influencer status and film promotion work as a front for drug trafficking. Allegedly, she maintained close ties with various film industry personalities and spent substantial amounts on procuring narcotics.
Rincy’s recent modus operandi reportedly involved targeting incoming travelers at airport area hotels for drug distribution. Phone records retrieved by investigators indicate frequent communication between Rincy and film actors and crew members. However, Rincy denies any connection between these communications and drug activities, asserting they were purely professional engagements. Authorities are now contemplating seeking custody of the accused for further interrogation.
This case has once again shed light on the increasing connection between drug networks and certain segments of the film industry, prompting demands for a more thorough investigation.
