The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has witnessed remarkable progress in production, sales, and employment over the last 12 years. Total sales surged by 501% to Rs 1.87 lakh crore in the financial year 2025-26, as per the latest data. KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar highlighted the commission’s significant achievements in various key performance indicators, indicating a robust expansion in rural economy.
In the same period, production in the sector saw a substantial increase of 380% to Rs 1.25 lakh crore, a significant rise from Rs 26,109 crore in 2013-14. The data also revealed a 56% growth in employment in khadi and village industries, reaching 2.04 crore in 2025-26 from 1.30 crore in 2013-14.
The sales in FY25 escalated by 447%, while production soared by 347% compared to the levels in 2013-14. Similarly, in FY24, sales and production surged by 400% and 315%, respectively, from the base year. The chairman attributed this remarkable performance to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, and the dedication of millions of rural artisans.
The production of khadi and village industry products witnessed a nearly five-fold increase from Rs 26,109 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 1.25 lakh crore in 2025-26. Moreover, sales experienced an almost six-fold surge from Rs 31,154 crore, marking the highest level achieved thus far. Khadi textiles particularly stood out with production rising by nearly 390% to Rs 3,974 crore and sales increasing by 628% to Rs 7,869 crore during the review period.
Employment generation has been a crucial driver of growth, with almost 1.99 crore individuals engaged in village industries, leading to an overall employment rise to 2.04 crore across industries. Notably, there has been significant participation of women in the sector, constituting nearly 59% of trainees and witnessing over 28,000 women entrepreneurs establishing units under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) in 2025-26.
