Kolkata is all set to host the national celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga on June 21, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the event. West Bengal is anticipating a historic moment as the Prime Minister joins in the Yoga Day observance. Thousands of people in the state are actively participating in yoga, meditation, and fitness activities, eagerly awaiting the Prime Minister’s visit to Kolkata.
Union Minister of State for AYUSH Prataprao Jadhav emphasized the significance of the upcoming event, stating that the presence of Prime Minister Modi will make the celebrations even more special. He highlighted the global impact of Yoga and India’s leadership in promoting it. State Minister Tapas Roy praised the Prime Minister for his efforts in popularizing Yoga both nationally and internationally, acknowledging the cultural and spiritual significance of Yoga in India.
In a prelude to the International Day of Yoga celebrations, a ‘Daud Se Dhyan’ marathon was inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in Kolkata. The event witnessed the participation of various dignitaries, including ministers and senior officials. The main event on June 21 will take place at the iconic Red Road in Kolkata, where Prime Minister Modi will lead participants in the Common Yoga Protocol.
A series of activities leading up to June 21 have been planned across Kolkata and West Bengal, including Cycling for Wellness campaigns, Yoga sessions, and special programs for different groups. The celebrations will continue with various events on June 20, culminating in mass Yoga demonstrations on boats along the Hooghly River. Kolkata will also feature illuminations, lighting arrangements, and a drone show, symbolizing the essence of Yoga and Bengal’s heritage.
