Kolkata Police apprehended 10 individuals following a violent confrontation between two groups in the Golpark region of south Kolkata. The arrested individuals, including Bobby Hela, Arjun Mallick, Sk. Bacchu, Mukesh Paswan, Rabin Das, Sujan Haldar, Raj Haldar, Gopal Sarkar, Ajay Haldar, and Sandip Naskar, are set to appear in a Kolkata court later today. The clash occurred on Kakulia Road near Golpark, leading to vandalism of police vehicles and motorcycles, with miscreants causing chaos in the area.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the violence erupted during a picnic at a local club near Golpark, with around 100 to 150 masked miscreants launching an attack. Gunshots were fired, crude bombs were thrown, and sharp weapons were used, instigating panic among residents. Bullet casings and bomb remnants were recovered from the scene, while two individuals, Ganesh Das and Sanat Singh, sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at SSKM Hospital.
Local residents attributed the attack to a group allegedly led by an individual known as Sona Pappu, linking it to past incidents of violence in the area. Concerns were raised over security lapses, given the proximity of the Rabindra Sarobar police station. Trinamool Congress councillor Baishwanor Chattopadhyay intervened at the scene, addressing the situation arising from a dispute during the picnic and assuring that order had been restored. Senior police officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Bholanath Pandey, initiated a thorough investigation, examining CCTV footage and conducting search operations that led to the arrests.
