Kolkata’s new Police Commissioner, Ajay Kumar Nand, stated that there is no conflict between the West Bengal Police and Central forces personnel ahead of the Assembly polls in the state. Nand emphasized that the Central forces will offer indirect assistance during the upcoming elections. He clarified that clear guidelines on the deployment of Central Armed Police Force can prevent conflicts.
Nand, who recently assumed office, dismissed claims of coordination issues with the central forces for the state elections. He highlighted the existing communication channels and designated nodal officers for coordination. The Commissioner assured that the elections in West Bengal would be conducted fairly and impartially.
Expressing commitment to ensuring the safety of the city’s residents during the elections, Nand affirmed that the Kolkata Police’s primary focus is on the electoral process. He addressed complaints that emerged after the poll schedule announcement, including incidents like political posters being torn down, stating that thorough investigations would be conducted.
Nand asserted that the Kolkata Police are well-equipped to handle challenging situations, citing an incident involving clashes between political party workers. He clarified that no central forces were present during the incident and emphasized the limited presence of such forces in the state. The Commissioner highlighted the Kolkata Police’s competence in managing law and order situations and overseeing public events.
