Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, Kolkata Police are implementing stringent measures to maintain law and order in the city, focusing primarily on identifying and confiscating illegal firearms. The new Commissioner of Police, Ajay Kumar Nand, has issued directives to all police stations and Divisional Deputy Commissioners to expedite the seizure of illegal weapons before the elections. Enhanced surveillance, especially in sensitive areas like the Bhangar Division, has been mandated to prevent the accumulation and use of illicit arms.
Commissioner Ajay Kumar Nand has emphasized the zero-tolerance approach of the police administration towards any risks during the election period. Prompt action is being taken by the police force, including the Detective Department, following instructions from senior officials to conduct special operations for the recovery of illegal firearms across the city. Security measures, such as increased checkpoints and vehicle inspections, are being intensified at crucial locations and entry/exit points to deter any illicit activities.
As the elections approach, concerns about potential misuse of illegal weapons by troublemakers are rising, prompting preemptive actions by the police. In addition to seizing weapons, efforts are underway to identify potential troublemakers and closely monitor their activities. The focus remains on maintaining strict vigilance to ensure a peaceful electoral process and prevent any untoward incidents.
