BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao called on the Congress government in Telangana to urgently activate the Kannepalli Pump House and utilize Godavari waters to avert a looming drought. Rao highlighted that a significant portion of the state is already experiencing drought-like conditions, emphasizing the need for immediate intervention to address the water crisis. He criticized the government for neglecting warnings about El Nino and insufficient rainfall, stressing the importance of safeguarding agriculture by efficiently managing water resources.
KTR urged the government to restart the Kannepalli pumps promptly to replenish reservoirs for irrigation and drinking water purposes across Telangana. He accused the government of intentionally withholding water, expressing concerns that this decision could adversely impact farmers and agricultural activities. Rao also scrutinized the government’s management of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, refuting corruption allegations and urging swift repairs to ensure the project’s functionality.
The BRS leader condemned the obstacles faced by the delegation during their journey to Kannepalli, citing unnecessary delays caused by police interventions. Reflecting on Telangana’s historical struggle for water, KTR praised the transformative impact of the Kaleshwaram project on the state’s irrigation and water supply systems. He cautioned that Hyderabad might also encounter water scarcity if proactive measures are not taken promptly, emphasizing the need to prioritize water management over political considerations.
KTR issued a stern warning that if the government fails to initiate water lifting from the Kannepalli pumps without delay, the BRS would escalate its protests. He announced plans for a mass demonstration at the Pump House, involving tens of thousands of supporters, to pressure the government into action and ensure the pumps are operational for the benefit of farmers in the region.
