India’s left-arm wrist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, is gearing up to lead the spin attack in the upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan. Despite a lackluster performance in the IPL 2026, where he managed only 10 wickets in 12 matches, Yadav sees this as an opportunity to hone his skills for the longer format.
Having taken 76 wickets in 17 Tests at an impressive average of 22.4, Yadav is determined to make a significant impact in the upcoming Test series, particularly against Australia at home. He emphasized the importance of having a quality spin attack in a successful Test side, highlighting its ability to turn the game around in any situation.
Yadav acknowledged the challenges of transitioning from IPL cricket to Test cricket, emphasizing the need for thorough preparation. He stressed the differences in approach between the two formats, noting the importance of patience, consistency, and tactical acumen required in Test cricket.
Ahead of the Afghanistan Test, Yadav expressed confidence in the preparations, despite the absence of seasoned spinners like Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. He welcomed the inclusion of young spinners, Harsh Dubey and Manav Suthar, praising their readiness and match awareness in red-ball cricket.
