Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor, V.K. Saxena, has approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) for the five newly established districts in the Union Territory. This move aims to enhance governance and law enforcement in the region. The new districts are Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar, and Drass.
This swift action ensures that administrative operations in the new districts can begin promptly. The appointments of DCs and SPs in all five districts have been finalized. The initiative is geared towards operationalizing governance structures, reinforcing law and order, and bringing administration closer to the residents, especially in remote areas.
The newly appointed officials are urged by the Lieutenant Governor to assume their responsibilities without delay. They are encouraged to work diligently to meet the needs of the people and drive the comprehensive development of the districts. L-G Saxena emphasizes the importance of promptly filling remaining subordinate positions and addressing logistical requirements to ensure smooth operations.
A robust administrative framework is being established to support long-term governance and development objectives, translating the vision of district creation into tangible benefits for the populace. Decentralized governance is highlighted as a key factor in improving service delivery, enhancing administrative efficiency, and bolstering law and order at the grassroots level. The existing district administrations of Leh and Kargil will continue to operate with their current officials, maintaining close coordination with the newly formed districts during the transition phase.
