The Lakhpati Didi scheme in Dhamtari district, Chhattisgarh, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, is empowering women by providing them with self-reliance opportunities. Women are being connected to livelihood options and gaining economic empowerment through skill development training. Many women in the district are benefiting from the scheme, starting various businesses and progressing towards becoming successful entrepreneurs.
One such beneficiary, Khileshwari Sahu from Dongardula village, is engaged in mushroom cultivation, which has brought economic prosperity to her family. She earns up to Rs 1 lakh annually through this activity. Khileshwari Sahu, a Lakhpati Didi associated with the Vihan group, expressed gratitude towards PM Modi for the initiative, highlighting how mushroom production has significantly improved her family’s financial situation.
Jhamin Bai, associated with the Saraswati Self-Help Group, shared her success story of receiving a Rs 3 lakh loan through the group to start her business. She earns Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 monthly from her shop and appreciates the government’s support for women’s progress. Sajni Kamar, a woman from the Kamar tribe in Kharkha village, narrated her journey from financial struggle to stability by opening a grocery shop with a Rs 1 lakh loan, now earning Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 per month.
The Lakhpati Didi scheme focuses on connecting women to self-help groups, offering skill development training, and providing interest-free loans ranging from Rs 1 to 5 lakh for starting businesses. Through this initiative, women in Dhamtari are being empowered to achieve self-employment and financial independence.
