US forces conducted strikes against Iran in response to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter, as confirmed by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM). President Donald Trump described the strikes as “very strong, very powerful” in an interview with ABC News.
The operation, initiated at 5 p.m. US Eastern Time (2100 GMT) under the president’s direction, led to several explosions being reported in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, Sirik County, and Jask County in southern Iran. Iranian media sources, including Xinhua news agency and the semi-official Tasnim news agency, detailed the aftermath of the US strikes.
Earlier, Trump accused Iran of shooting down the helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz and pledged a response. Despite the incident, the two pilots aboard the aircraft were safely rescued, with Trump emphasizing the need for a US reaction to the attack.
Israeli army commander Eyal Zamir highlighted the delicate situation, noting that recent attacks against Iran were just a prelude to a more substantial strike. He emphasized Israel’s readiness to act decisively against Iran, as tensions escalated with renewed Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon.
