A landslide struck the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine track on Wednesday evening due to heavy rain. Despite the incident, the pilgrimage to the shrine continued without disruption. The landslide, near Himkoti on the new track leading to the shrine, temporarily halted the battery car service.
The Shrine Board promptly deployed resources to clear the debris from the affected route. Although the battery car service was briefly suspended, pilgrims continued their journey to the shrine using the old route. Mata Vaishno Devi, a revered Hindu deity, is worshipped at the Vaishno Devi Temple located in the Trikuta Mountains in Jammu and Kashmir.
Dedicated to Goddess Durga, the temple sits at an altitude of 5,200 feet and requires a 13-kilometre trek from the base camp town of Katra. The deity, also known as Vaishnavi, Trikuta, and Sherawali, is believed to embody the nature of Shakti and is worshipped as a divine protector and granter of blessings.
