The upcoming sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League has garnered significant global attention, with more than 650 foreign cricketers registering for the tournament before the player draft on June 1. Players from various ICC Full Member nations and Associate Member countries have signed up for the event, as confirmed by Sri Lanka cricket. Notably, Pakistan leads the registrations with 102 players, followed by the West Indies and South Africa with 75 and 66 players, respectively.
Talents from Bangladesh, New Zealand, Australia, England, and India have also shown interest, with 48, 41, 24, 15, and 12 registrations, respectively. Out of the numerous registrations, only 310 players will be selected after the screening process for the final draft of LPL 2026, set to occur on June 1. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on July 17 and conclude on August 8. Defending champions Jaffna Kings will clash with Galle Marvels in the opening match at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo.
Originally planned for December 2025 but rescheduled due to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, the tournament will feature 24 matches across Colombo, Kandy, and Dambulla. Five franchises will participate in a double round-robin format, leading to the playoffs and the final showdown on August 8.
