Laos’ Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare is increasing its endeavors to eradicate discrimination in workplaces, focusing on issues like gender-based abuse and child labor. A recent meeting was held to discuss a draft training manual and communication tools aimed at preventing discrimination in the work environment. The initiative aims to safeguard workers from various forms of abuse and discrimination while helping Laos adhere to international labor standards.

Deputy Director General of the ministry’s Department of Labour Management, Khamphat Onlasy, emphasized the importance of protecting workers and preventing discrimination in his speech. He urged officials to collaborate with experts to ensure the timely completion and adaptation of the training manual and communication toolkit. The project is part of a broader effort to eliminate workplace discrimination, abuse, and child labor in Laos to enhance trade and compliance.

The initiative focuses on specific trade-related sectors by enhancing social dialogue and institutional capacity to combat discrimination and abuse in workplaces. It also advocates for labor policies that uphold fundamental principles and rights at work while striving to eradicate child labor. Laos’ Ministry of Education and Sports recently introduced reforms to modernize curricula, improve human resources, and enhance teacher welfare nationwide. The ministry integrated vocational skills into general education and revised curricula to align education with labor market demands.
