A legal notice has been issued to Bengali actor and Trinamool Congress MLA Soham Chakraborty for allegedly not repaying money borrowed for a film project. Chakraborty reportedly took ₹68 lakh from Shahid Imam for a Bengali film production but failed to fully return it despite promises.
The incident has reportedly caused embarrassment to the Trinamool Congress party, especially with the upcoming Assembly elections. Chakraborty, in response, stated that he would repay the money and criticized the timing of the notice as politically motivated.
An agreement was signed between Shahid Imam and Chakraborty in July 2021 for a film project titled ‘Manik Jod’. Imam had agreed to invest Rs 1 crore, of which Rs 68 lakh was paid to Chakraborty. However, the film was not completed, leading to the repayment issue.
Chakraborty allegedly returned Rs 25 lakh to Imam in two installments but still owes around Rs 43 lakh. Following this, a legal notice was sent demanding the repayment of the remaining amount. Chakraborty expressed surprise at the timing of the notice, given his prior discussions with Imam regarding repayment.
