Legendary singer S Janaki, a four-time National Award winner known for her 48,000 songs in various Indian languages, passed away at a private hospital in Mysuru. She was admitted to Apollo BGS Hospitals on Saturday and despite intensive medical care, she suffered a cardiac arrest and could not be revived.
The hospital’s statement mentioned that Janaki was admitted in critical condition and was immediately moved to the Intensive Care Unit for treatment. Despite efforts by a multidisciplinary team, she experienced multiple cardiac arrests and eventually passed away at 7:30 PM on the same day. Her granddaughter, Apsara Vydyula, confirmed the news on Instagram, expressing gratitude for Janaki’s life and music.
Janaki, who began her singing career at 19, quickly rose to fame with her versatile voice. Known for her ability to adapt her voice to various styles and ages, she garnered numerous accolades, including four National Awards and 33 state film awards. Her demise has deeply saddened the Indian film industry and fans worldwide.
