Voting for local body elections in Gujarat kicked off on Sunday, with notable leaders and personalities turning up early to vote, emphasizing the significance of grassroots democracy. Adani Airport Holdings Ltd Director Jeet Adani and his wife Diva Shah were among the voters at a polling station in Ahmedabad. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accompanied by his family, also participated by casting their votes in Gandhinagar.
Gujarat Chief Minister Patel exercised his voting right in Ahmedabad right after the polling began at 7 a.m., labeling the elections as a “festival of democracy” and urging active citizen involvement. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, voting in Surat, expressed confidence in high public engagement, highlighting the populace’s support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development-oriented politics.
The ongoing elections cover 15 municipal corporations, including key cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot, in addition to 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayats. Vote counting is scheduled for April 28.
