Police in Kolkata successfully rescued a local businessman who was reportedly kidnapped and assaulted in the Posta area. The abductors had demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh, prompting the intervention of the Posta Police Station personnel, who managed to rescue the businessman late on Saturday night. Two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the incident.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter. The kidnapped businessman, identified as Dilip Jain, resides in the Posta Police Station area of north Kolkata. Originally from Rajasthan, Dilip currently resides in Kolkata with his family. Following a complaint lodged by his family at the Posta Police Station alleging his abduction, the police began their inquiries.
After analyzing mobile tower location data and other technical information, investigators located Dilip at a property on Hariram Goenka Street in the Posta area. Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid at the location, successfully rescuing the businessman and arresting two suspects, identified as Rohan and Rajesh.
Initial findings suggest that the arrested individuals had loaned Rs 20 lakh to a third party through Dilip, who had received a commission for his involvement in the transaction. When the borrower failed to repay the sum, Rohan and Rajesh allegedly demanded its return from Dilip. Despite his denial of responsibility, the accused allegedly orchestrated his kidnapping to retrieve the money through ransom demands. The police have detained the suspects and are continuing their investigation to determine if others were involved in the abduction. Family members of the businessman are also under scrutiny to ascertain if anyone besides the arrested duo made ransom calls.
