A tragic incident unfolded in Bihar’s Supaul district as a speeding car, suspected of carrying illicit liquor from Nepal, struck and killed Manoj Kumar, a Janata Dal(United) leader. The accident, which occurred in the Ratanpura police station area, has stirred tension and outrage in the community.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the police were chasing a vehicle believed to be smuggling liquor from the Nepal border. The pursuit led to the smugglers losing control of their car, causing it to collide with a parked tractor before hitting Manoj Kumar, who was on his way to open his grocery shop after dropping his granddaughter at school.
Despite immediate medical attention at Raghopur Referral Hospital, Manoj Kumar succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family, including his Anganwadi worker wife, Pushpa Kumari, devastated. The incident has sparked anger among locals, highlighting concerns about the rampant liquor smuggling near the Nepal border.
Authorities have apprehended two suspects in connection with the case, while one remains at large. The police operation also resulted in the seizure of approximately 1,050 bottles of country liquor believed to be produced in Nepal. Investigations suggest that the consignment was en route from Nepal’s Lahi region to Simrahi, with efforts underway to dismantle the smuggling network.
Station House Officer Pintu Kumar stated that efforts are ongoing to capture the fugitive suspect and disrupt the broader smuggling operations. The police have heightened their scrutiny of the situation, responding to public apprehension regarding cross-border liquor smuggling activities in the region.
