Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has scheduled a Business Advisory Committee meeting for Sunday at 5 p.m. to organize the day-to-day legislative agenda for the upcoming Monsoon Session starting on July 20 and running until August 13. The session will consist of 19 sittings.

At the Main Committee Room of Parliament House Annexe, an all-party meeting is in progress where the government seeks cooperation from all political parties to ensure the smooth functioning of both Houses of Parliament. However, during the meeting, INDIA bloc MPs staged a walkout in protest against the presence of members from the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), a breakaway faction of the Trinamool Congress.

The internal conflicts within the Trinamool Congress, differences between the DMK and Congress, and defections from the Uddhav Sena are expected to alter the parliamentary landscape. The ruling NDA is likely to strengthen its numbers, while the Opposition INDIA bloc may see a reduction.

Decisions regarding the merger of rebel Trinamool MPs with the NCPI and Uddhav Sena MPs with Shiv Sena will be made by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Additionally, following the Congress alliance with the TVK in Tamil Nadu, the DMK has requested separate seating arrangements for its MPs apart from the Congress.

The upcoming Monsoon Session is expected to prioritize the 131st Constitution Amendment Bill on women’s reservation and delimitation, which was previously rejected. There is anticipation surrounding the introduction of the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill, aiming to automatically remove detained chief ministers, ministers, and the Prime Minister after 30 consecutive days in serious crime cases.

On the agenda are also the One Nation, One Election Bill, FCRA Bill, Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, and Anti-Doping Bill. Additionally, proposals to replace the ordinance increasing the number of Supreme Court judges and bills related to the Code on Wages Central Rules, Corporate Law, and Securities Market Code may be presented.
