Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla unveiled the first edition of ‘Vidhan-Chetna’, a quarterly journal from the Delhi Legislative Assembly. Simultaneously, he introduced the release of the Central Legislative Assembly proceedings from 1924-1930, spanning 89 volumes. Birla emphasized that these endeavors aim to enhance democratic discussions, parliamentary studies, research, and ideological conversations.
The Speaker highlighted the significance of dialogue, reasoning, and knowledge-based debates in strengthening democracy. He expressed hope that these publications would connect the youth with India’s constitutional heritage, parliamentary customs, and nation-building values. The event, held at the Delhi Assembly, was graced by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Delhi Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, and other legislators.
Birla praised the Delhi Legislative Assembly’s effort to document 407 historic Central Legislative Assembly meetings in 89 volumes comprising 32,376 pages. Reflecting on the historical significance, Birla noted how the old secretariat’s walls had witnessed pivotal deliberations and resolutions for nation-building.
In these records, Birla acknowledged the contributions of notable figures like Vithalbhai Patel, Madan Mohan Malaviya, Lala Lajpat Rai, Vipin Chandra Pal, and Madhav Shrihari Aney. He highlighted Vithalbhai Patel’s role as the first Indian President of the Central Legislative Assembly, setting a precedent for Lok Sabha. Birla commended Patel’s impartial leadership, autonomy, and commitment to parliamentary decorum, which continue to inspire democratic institutions today.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta described the event as a crucial link between India’s parliamentary legacy and its contemporary legislative journey.
