The President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, Harshwardhan Sapkal, asserted that the surge in fuel prices and shortages is solely due to the failures of the Modi government. He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for neglecting the economy and misleading the public with the ‘Atmanirbharta’ promise, leading to a fuel crisis.
Sapkal highlighted that the prices of petrol, diesel, CNG, and LPG gas have significantly risen due to the absence of a concrete policy. He criticized PM Modi for being preoccupied with election campaigns in five states while ignoring the impending fuel shortage, resulting in a heavy burden on the people.
According to Sapkal, the Modi government has consistently raised fuel prices since assuming power in 2014. He emphasized that both government-owned and private oil companies have reaped huge profits from these hikes, alleging that the government prioritized corporate interests over creating a reserve fund for oil procurement, which he deemed as a form of major corruption.
Sapkal also addressed the onion procurement issue, stating that despite meetings with Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra received no substantial support. He criticized the government’s proposal to procure onions at Rs 1,500 per quintal, as farmers demand Rs 3,000 per quintal and procurement through NAFED, expressing dissatisfaction with the current situation.
