Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recently met with the newly appointed Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman, following the swearing-in of the BNP government in Dhaka. Birla expressed India’s readiness to assist Bangladesh in its efforts to establish a democratic, progressive, and inclusive nation.
During their meeting, Birla congratulated Rahman on assuming office and extended an invitation for him to visit India. Both leaders expressed optimism about collaborating for the well-being of the people of both countries.
In a statement by Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, it was mentioned that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman conveyed his greetings to India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the courtesy meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The leaders discussed enhancing cooperation for the benefit of the citizens of both Bangladesh and India.
Following his party’s victory in the 13th Parliamentary elections, Tarique Rahman was sworn in as the 11th Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The cabinet, consisting of 50 members, including BNP leaders, was also sworn in after Rahman took the oath. President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath at the National Parliament in Dhaka.
Representing the Indian government, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attended the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected government in Dhaka. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the strong bond between India and Bangladesh, emphasizing India’s support for Bangladesh’s transition to an elected government under Tarique Rahman’s leadership.
