As the Budget Session of Parliament resumes, the Lok Sabha is gearing up to discuss a no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla. BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal believes the motion lacks logical grounds and support, predicting its failure in the House. The proposal, brought under parliamentary provisions, is expected to face strong opposition from the ruling party.
JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad emphasized the importance of maintaining order in the House, stating that anarchy cannot be tolerated. While acknowledging the democratic nature of such proposals, Prasad expressed confidence in the rejection of the motion due to the prevailing numbers in favor of the Speaker.
Independent MP Pappu Yadav highlighted the significance of the Speaker’s role in the parliamentary system, expressing optimism for the continued dignified functioning of the institution. Yadav praised the current Speaker and hoped that the office would always uphold the representation of the nation’s populace.
The no-confidence motion, initiated by three Congress lawmakers, accuses the Speaker of biased behavior and a lack of impartiality in his role. The motion outlines instances where the Speaker allegedly favored the ruling party and disregarded the rights of opposition members. The upcoming debate on this motion is anticipated to be a focal point as the Lok Sabha resumes its proceedings.
