The iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in the UK has achieved a new milestone in women’s cricket by surpassing the attendance record for a Women’s Test match. With 23,207 tickets already sold for the upcoming one-off clash against India from July 10-13, this historic event marks the first women’s Test match to be played at the renowned venue, fifty years after the pioneering moment led by Rachael Heyhoe Flint.
This record-breaking feat is part of a significant season at Lord’s, hosting a total of 21 women’s fixtures spanning international, domestic, and pathway competitions. Additionally, the ground is set to hold four matches during the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, including the highly anticipated final on July 5, which is already sold out.
The London Spirit’s rebranding in The Hundred, with Heather Knight as the inaugural Women’s General Manager, highlights the ongoing push for gender equality in cricket. Last year, the tournament achieved a women’s attendance record with 22,542 spectators witnessing the final at Lord’s, showcasing the growing popularity of women’s cricket.
Robert Lawson, the Chief Executive and Secretary of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), expressed enthusiasm over this achievement, emphasizing the significance of hosting the first women’s Test at Lord’s. With the match scheduled to begin on July 10 and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup preceding it, Lawson anticipates a surge in ticket sales, aiming to make this inaugural women’s Test a historic moment for all involved.
MCC’s dedication to women’s cricket is further underscored by permanent tributes such as the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Gate, a Women’s Ashes plaque in the Harris Garden, and a portrait of Charlotte Edwards in the Long Room.
