Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant acknowledged that his team’s fielding errors were crucial as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) successfully chased down 204 runs, securing a five-wicket victory in a high-scoring IPL 2026 game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Despite a close contest until the final over, LSG’s missed opportunities, particularly dropping catches of Urvil Patel and Prashant Veer, proved detrimental, leaving the team at risk of being the first to exit IPL 2026.
Pant expressed his thoughts after the match, emphasizing the significance of maintaining high fielding standards in T20 cricket. He commended Urvil Patel’s remarkable 13-ball fifty for CSK, likening it to Josh Inglis’s explosive innings for LSG. Pant credited CSK for their composure under pressure, acknowledging their superior nerve-holding ability in critical moments.
Reflecting on LSG’s batting performance, Pant noted that despite a strong start, they fell short of their target score. While acknowledging the challenging conditions after the power play, he highlighted the team’s initial aim of setting a competitive target between 200-210 runs. Pant defended his decision to utilize Shahbaz Ahmed in the final over, citing the challenge of facing two left-handed batsmen and the need to trust experienced bowlers like Markram.
