A Lucknow University assistant professor has been suspended for engaging in obscene telephonic conversations with a female student who was preparing for the NEET exam. The assistant professor, Dr. Paramjit Singh from the Department of Zoology, was found to have attempted to entice the student by offering her a leaked NEET exam question paper. This inappropriate behavior led to the student feeling distressed, prompting her to report the incident to the police.
The suspension of Dr. Paramjit Singh was decided during the University’s Executive Council meeting. The professor’s actions came to light when an audio clip of him making vulgar advances towards the student went viral. Following this, students associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested on campus, demanding action against the professor.
An FIR was filed against the professor at the Hasanganj Police Station based on a complaint from the University’s Controller of Examinations. The professor was subsequently arrested and taken into custody by the police. An Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) investigated the matter and found the professor guilty of serious charges, including attempting to sexually exploit the student, violating the Teachers’ Code of Conduct, and causing mental harassment.
The university administration expressed concern over the damage caused to the institution’s reputation and academic integrity due to the professor’s actions. The professor has been directed to provide a written explanation within 15 days regarding the allegations. Failure to do so may lead to severe disciplinary measures, potentially including termination of employment.
