New Zealand’s batting coach, Luke Ronchi, will be stepping down from his position with NZC to take on the role of head coach at the Melbourne Renegades in the Australian Big Bash League. Ronchi will remain involved with the BlackCaps team during the upcoming India tour of New Zealand in October before transitioning to his new role with the Melbourne Renegades.
Having previously played for both Australia and New Zealand, Ronchi became the full-time batting coach in 2020, succeeding Peter Fulton who moved on to lead Canterbury. Expressing his gratitude, Ronchi mentioned that returning to the national setup had been a cherished opportunity, highlighting his goal of aiding the team and batters in achieving top-level performance.
Under Ronchi’s guidance, the BlackCaps experienced significant success, including winning the ICC World Test Championship in 2021, reaching two ICC Men’s T20 World Cup finals in 2021 and 2026, securing a 3-0 Test series victory against India in 2024, and other notable achievements. Test captain Tom Latham praised Ronchi’s contributions, emphasizing his positive impact on player development and team culture.
