The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet, in a recent meeting, greenlit a range of ambitious infrastructure, road connectivity, and irrigation projects valued at thousands of crores, with a strong emphasis on rural and tribal development.
To enhance rural connectivity, the Cabinet sanctioned projects for constructing nearly 20,000 km of new roads and 1,200 bridges, estimated at Rs 17,196 crore. Additionally, the renovation of 8,517 km of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana from 2026 to 2031 was approved with a budget of Rs 10,000 crore.
Special attention was given to tribal and rural areas, with a focus on continuing road and bridge projects under the Tribal Justice Mega Campaign. This initiative, linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s schemes, includes road and bridge development across 22 districts at a cost of Rs 795 crore.
Irrigation infrastructure in the Burhanpur district also received significant investment, with projects totaling Rs 922 crore and Rs 1,676 crore aimed at providing irrigation to thousands of hectares and benefiting numerous farmer families.
Under the Narmada Valley Development Authority, projects like the Narmada-Shipra Link Project and the Badnawar Micro Lift Irrigation Scheme were awarded to project companies, benefiting tribal families in Madhya Pradesh. The state government also announced plans to transition to a fully digital tablet-based system for Cabinet proceedings after the next two meetings.
The state Cabinet reaffirmed its commitment to observing the Year 2025 as the “Year of Industry and Employment,” with a future focus on agriculture and agro-based industries. Special initiatives will be rolled out for tribal-dominated regions to foster inclusive growth.
