In a recent cabinet meeting in Bhopal, the Madhya Pradesh Council of Ministers, led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, sanctioned development proposals worth Rs 10,800 crore. The focus is on bolstering infrastructure and improving public welfare in the state.
The cabinet greenlit a substantial Rs 8,445 crore for urban infrastructure development over the next five years. This funding, sourced from additional charges on registration and stamp duty under the Municipalities Act, will be allocated to a dedicated fund managed by the Commercial Taxes Department. Municipal bodies will utilize these resources for city rejuvenation projects and repayment of urban development loans.
To support farmers, the cabinet approved a government guarantee of Rs 1,587 crore for the procurement of “Moong” (green gram) under the Government of India’s price support scheme for the Rabi season 2023-24. This guarantee includes funds from Punjab National Bank and State Bank of India.
Another significant decision was the allocation of Rs 245.45 crore for the continuation of the Kundalia Major Irrigation Project in Rajgarh district. This project, scheduled during the 16th Central Finance Commission period, aims to enhance irrigation potential in Rajgarh and Agar-Malwa districts through dam construction and micro-irrigation systems.
In an administrative change, the cabinet shifted the responsibility of producing and supplying ‘Take-Home Ration’ for children from the Madhya Pradesh State Livelihood Forum to the Women and Child Development Department. The department will procure nutritional supplements through SHGs as an interim measure.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved Rs 521.04 crore for the operational expenses of the Commercial Taxes Department over the next five years. This allocation covers headquarters, district offices, and zonal offices for salaries, office expenses, and maintenance.
