In a surprising move, the Madhya Pradesh government has reorganized ministerial responsibilities by withdrawing the Animal Husbandry Department from Minister Lakhan Patel. Patel will now oversee only the “Happiness Department” ministry, while Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has assumed direct control of the Animal Husbandry department. The government has not provided an official explanation for this decision, leading to speculation about potential cabinet changes in the near future.
Government sources suggest that this reallocation may be part of a broader strategy to reinforce key departments under the Chief Minister’s direct supervision, particularly in preparation for significant policy initiatives in agriculture and animal husbandry. The reshuffle has also prompted discussions regarding possible new appointments or adjustments to portfolios in the coming weeks.
Chief Minister Yadav has now taken charge of 11 departments, including General Administration, Home, Jail, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion, Public Relations, Narmada Valley Development, Aviation, Minerals, Public Service Management, Overseas Indians, and Animal Husbandry and Dairy. This leaves no other minister responsible for these departments.
Lakhan Patel, a senior BJP leader and MLA from Pathariya Assembly constituency in Damoh district, has a notable background in agriculture and banking. He began his political career in 2013 and has since served in various capacities, including as a Minister of State in Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s cabinet. The unexpected change in Patel’s portfolio has generated significant interest within the state’s political circles.
