In a significant development regarding Twisha Sharma’s alleged dowry death case, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered a second autopsy of her remains to be conducted by a team from AIIMS Delhi. This decision came after Twisha Sharma’s family challenged a lower court’s denial of a fresh post-mortem examination, citing inconsistencies and procedural lapses in the initial autopsy. The High Court directed state authorities to preserve all medical and forensic evidence and assist the AIIMS Delhi team during the process.
The court emphasized the need for an independent medical examination due to concerns raised by the victim’s family and the gravity of the case. Twisha Sharma was discovered deceased at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal, prompting her family to question the delay in filing the FIR and the conduct of the first post-mortem. Allegations of dowry harassment against Twisha Sharma’s in-laws have drawn significant attention to the case, with a retired judge among those named in the FIR. The Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a CBI probe, and preparations for the transfer are in progress.
