Madhya Pradesh government has initiated its most extensive land records digitisation endeavor, focusing on approximately 150 million old revenue documents as part of the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme (DILRMP).
The objective is to enhance citizen access to land records, boost transparency in revenue administration, and ensure the preservation of historical documents, as per an official statement released on Monday.
This initiative signifies the third phase of the state’s land records modernisation program and is the most significant since its inception, with over 55 million land records digitised in the initial two phases.
The project entails establishing modern scanning centers in districts, along with developing a Document Management System (DMS) and DBES software for digitising and conserving old revenue records.
Each scanned document will undergo metadata entry and DBES-based double-blind data entry before online verification by the respective Patwari, following which the records will be uploaded to the Bhulekh Portal for public accessibility.
Around 27 million land records have already been scanned in 12 districts of the Jabalpur and Narmadapuram divisions during the first phase of the ongoing process, with data entry and verification currently in progress.
The subsequent phase, commencing in July, will encompass 11 districts in the Bhopal and Sagar divisions, with the necessary guidelines already issued to district administrations.
“The digitisation of land records will enhance the transparency and efficiency of the revenue system, facilitating online viewing and retrieval of land records for citizens,” the statement emphasized.
