Madhya Pradesh Rural Development Minister Prahlad Singh Patel highlighted that World Environment Day, observed on June 5, should be a time for reflection and commitment rather than just a formal occasion. Patel stressed the need to ensure the security of water, forests, and land for the well-being of future generations. He emphasized that the global water crisis is a critical issue affecting the planet’s sustainability, not limited to any specific region.
Referring to the state government’s ‘Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan,’ Patel described it as a community-driven initiative focused on water conservation and enhancement through public engagement. The campaign aims to revive old ponds, wells, stepwells, and rivers, promote rainwater harvesting, and plant trees around water bodies to support natural preservation efforts.
Patel shared his personal efforts in conserving water sources by leading cleaning projects for the rejuvenation of the Singri River in Narsinghpur and Gotegaon. He highlighted the positive impact of desilting water structures in improving groundwater levels and restoring historical ponds and stepwells, which has increased local water availability. Patel also emphasized the importance of initiatives like ‘Pani Chaupal’ in promoting water conservation awareness and encouraging farmers to adopt efficient irrigation systems for sustainable agriculture practices.
The Minister underscored the significance of treating and reusing urban wastewater, controlling industrial pollution, and promoting responsible water usage to ensure the success of conservation campaigns. Patel urged collective action to save every drop of water, protect water sources, and fulfill our environmental responsibilities. He emphasized that water conservation is crucial for safeguarding future generations and preserving life itself.
