Madhya Pradesh experienced scattered yet intense rainfall on Friday, leading to thunderstorms and lightning in various districts. The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre in Bhopal confirmed moderate to heavy showers in both eastern and western parts of the state, offering a temporary respite from the increasing heat. The IMD issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in isolated to scattered places across divisions like Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Sagar, Rewa, and Gwalior. Light to moderate rain is expected in a few areas, with chances of isolated heavy spells.
The five-day forecast from March 19 to 23 indicates ongoing rainfall activity, primarily in central and eastern Madhya Pradesh, with green and yellow patches denoting rain at isolated to scattered locations. Farmers have been advised to delay outdoor activities, safeguard livestock, and avoid standing under trees during thunderstorms. The bulletin forecasts no significant temperature fluctuations in the upcoming days, with maximums ranging between 35-39 degrees Celsius and minimums between 18-26 degrees in most districts.
Residents reported sudden dark clouds, thunder, and brief heavy downpours that led to minor waterlogging in low-lying villages and slowed traffic on highways. While the rainfall brought relief from the early summer heat, authorities caution against slippery roads and lightning hazards. The Meteorological Centre in Bhopal will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates, urging citizens to stay informed through official alerts for their safety.
