The Madras High Court has decided to mediate a criminal case involving Tamil Nadu Minister N. Maria Wilson and his family, stemming from an alleged assault during a property dispute. The court exempted Wilson from appearing before a Puducherry trial court on July 10, emphasizing the potential for an amicable settlement.

The case originated from a complaint by Wilson’s elder brother, Marie Claude, who accused Wilson and their father of forcibly entering his residence in Puducherry and assaulting him and his wife over a family property disagreement. The Laspettai police investigated the matter and filed a charge sheet with the First Criminal Court in Puducherry.

Maria Wilson, challenging the proceedings, sought to quash the case and requested exemption from appearing before the trial court. Acknowledging the family nature of the dispute, the court directed all parties to attempt mediation for a possible resolution. Pending the mediation outcome, Wilson was granted temporary exemption from appearing in court.
