The Madras High Court is set to hear a plea on Thursday regarding the withdrawal of a case challenging the expulsion of senior leaders from the AIADMK after the party’s leadership split in 2022. The request for withdrawal faced a procedural delay, leading to the matter being scheduled before Justice N. Kumaresh Babu.
The leadership dispute within the AIADMK arose in 2022, resulting in rival factions led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) and O. Panneerselvam (OPS). Following a General Council meeting on July 11, 2022, resolutions were passed expelling key leaders from the party, including O. Panneerselvam and others.
The expelled leaders, including J.C.D. Prabhakar, approached the Madras High Court challenging their removal, which has been pending amid ongoing litigation related to the AIADMK leadership conflict. Recent political changes have prompted the petitioners to seek permission to withdraw the case, with the court now expected to address this request.
