NITI Aayog has launched a competitive benchmark for states on key indicators affecting human life. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra has instructed government departments to devise outcome-driven plans over the next four years to secure the state’s top spot in Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) parameters nationwide. Fadnavis emphasized the significance of intensive development efforts in 10 designated aspirational districts and 177 aspirational talukas to maintain Maharashtra’s governance lead.
The Chief Minister stressed the critical nature of the upcoming four years for the state’s progress, urging departments to revamp ongoing schemes and align budget allocations to accelerate goal achievement. He directed each department to evaluate their performance indicators, enhance administrative procedures, and adjust policies based on best practices from leading states to enhance Maharashtra’s performance.
Fadnavis mandated the collection of real-time data by departments, conducting analytical studies, and comparing performance with other states to enhance efficiency. He highlighted the importance of bridging ‘data gaps’ between official numbers and ground realities, emphasizing the need for primary and real-time data collection systems. The Chief Minister also underlined the shift towards outcome-based evaluation in the healthcare sector, focusing on measuring patient metrics pre and post interventions for accurate impact assessment.
