The Maharashtra State Council of Examinations (MSCE) has abruptly canceled the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026, which was supposed to be held on Sunday. This decision follows a recent raid by the Bhiwandi Police that uncovered a significant question paper leak just a day before the statewide exam. The exam, scheduled across 1,028 centers in Maharashtra, was postponed to ensure fairness and transparency for all candidates.
Intelligence agencies received confidential information early Saturday, indicating unauthorized access to the TET question papers by individuals in Bhiwandi. Acting on this tip-off, the Bhiwandi Police Department conducted a raid, detaining suspects and seizing incriminating materials. Officials from the MSCE confirmed that the questions found with the detained individuals matched those prepared for the actual exam.
An official FIR was filed against the accused individuals at the Bhiwandi Police Station after the breach was confirmed. The MSCE, taking the security lapse seriously, decided to cancel the exam for a comprehensive investigation. The Education Department and Thane Police have initiated a joint probe to identify the mastermind behind the leak and determine the extent of the security breach.
The MSCE has assured candidates that a new date for the Maharashtra TET 2026 will be announced soon. An ongoing investigation aims to uncover the mastermind and any potential internal involvement. The cancellation has left over 428,000 candidates in uncertainty, with many expressing frustration over the sudden turn of events and calling for stricter anti-paper leak measures in the education sector.
