Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis praised the Indian Cricket Team’s remarkable victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup during a State Assembly session. He lauded the team’s exceptional performance, highlighting their dominance throughout the tournament, with just one match lost. Fadnavis credited the success to a combination of team spirit, discipline, and confidence.
The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt congratulations to Captain Suryakumar Yadav, Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, and the entire squad for their outstanding achievement. The motion celebrating the team’s victory was approved by the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar. Fadnavis also reflected on India’s cricketing journey, mentioning significant milestones like the World Cup wins in 1983, 2007, and 2011, and the recent T20 World Cup titles in 2024 and 2026.
Fadnavis expressed pride in Mumbai-based players Captain Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube, emphasizing the representation of rural talent on the global stage. He highlighted the final match’s details at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where India set a record-breaking total of 255/5 and bowled out New Zealand for 159 runs. The Chief Minister commended players like Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah, and Axar Patel for their stellar performances.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also lauded the team’s victory in the State Legislative Council, describing it as a testament to the players’ determination, team spirit, and confidence. He congratulated the team, coaching staff, and BCCI Chairman Jay Shah on behalf of the state government and the people of Maharashtra. Shinde praised India’s historic wins in 2007, 2024, and 2026, highlighting the team’s all-round excellence in batting, bowling, and fielding under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav and guidance of Gautam Gambhir.
