Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis criticized Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, for his comments on the Prime Minister’s call for austerity amid the West Asia conflict. Fadnavis stated that Gandhi’s understanding of the situation seemed limited and refrained from elaborating on his remarks. He labeled Rahul Gandhi as “rejected goods,” emphasizing the public’s rejection of his leadership.
CM Fadnavis defended PM Modi’s appeal for austerity, highlighting its importance in conserving foreign exchange reserves. He stressed that India’s consistent fuel supply amidst global challenges was attributed to the Prime Minister’s leadership. Fadnavis warned that failing to comprehend the situation could lead to scarcity, as neighboring countries faced oil and gas shortages and price hikes.
While acknowledging the relevance of PM Modi’s advice on austerity, Maharashtra Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar criticized the timing, suggesting that the focus on sacrifice emerged post-elections. NCP(SP) legislator Rohit Pawar supported the austerity advice, proposing its implementation across BJP-ruled states as well. Former Shiv Sena(UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi recommended restrictions on ministerial cavalcades, election rallies, and swearing-in ceremonies to promote austerity.
