The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president, Harshwardhan Sapkal, expressed concern over Chief Minister Fadnavis’s electoral strategies, likening them to those in Bihar. Sapkal urged Maharashtra residents to be vigilant against these tactics and emphasized the need to uproot such influences.
Sapkal highlighted a recent violent incident in Nanded Municipal Corporation, where a Congress candidate’s husband was attacked with a sword. Similar attacks and threats have been reported in Solapur, Akot, and Khalapur, targeting opposition party candidates challenging the current power structure.
The Congress leader emphasized the importance of supporting opposition candidates in municipal elections to safeguard democracy and uphold the Constitution. He called on voters to resist inducements and ensure a clear majority for Congress candidates to counter the prevailing political dynamics.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Regional Congress Committee President Varsha Gaikwad asserted the Congress party’s pivotal role in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Gaikwad dismissed claims of the Congress being sidelined in Mumbai civic polls, expressing confidence in the party’s increased seat wins and its potential influence in post-election mayoral appointments.
