The Maharashtra government has decided to contest a Bombay High Court ruling that granted approximately 254.88 acres of government land in Mira-Bhayandar to private developers. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced plans to file a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court against this decision. The disputed land in Mouje Bhayandar has a contentious history of unauthorized changes in revenue records dating back to 1948.
The state government asserts that the land, which has been subject to illegal alterations in ownership details over the years, rightfully belongs to the State Government. Despite previous legal proceedings favoring the government’s ownership claims, a recent High Court judgment sided with the private developers, Estate Investment and Mira Real Estate Developers. This ruling has raised concerns about the potential transfer of valuable government land to private entities.
Minister Bawankule emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding public property and preventing any encroachment on government land through manipulation of records. He cited the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code of 1966 to support the state’s position on the disputed land’s ownership rights. The government intends to challenge the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court to uphold the State’s claim over the contested property.
