The Maharashtra government has announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate alleged irregularities and corruption in the land acquisition and mutation process at Mouje Gangapur in Nandurbar district. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule revealed that the probe will scrutinize the acceptance of an irregular gift deed and unauthorized mutations that violated established rules.
Responding to a Calling Attention Notice by member Chandrakant Raghuvanshi in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Minister Bawankule emphasized that the investigation would spare no one, from lower-level officials to senior authorities. The minister highlighted the lack of familial or legal relationship between the original landowner and the recipient of the gift deed, suggesting the involvement of an organized racket.
In addition to addressing the Mouje Gangapur case, Minister Bawankule assured the House of corrective action regarding the protection of tribal lands. He acknowledged an erroneous order canceling safeguards for tribal land and pledged to rectify it, even considering legal recourse if necessary to prevent future misuse of procedures. The government remains committed to safeguarding tribal rights and combating corruption in land administration.
