A significant cybercrime investigation in Gujarat has resulted in the apprehension of 13 individuals allegedly involved in a cyber fraud network. The operation, known as ‘Operation Mule Hunt 2.0’, was conducted by the Cyber Centre of Excellence following directives from senior police officials. The arrests were made across multiple districts including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Bharuch, and Rajkot.
Superintendent of Police Rajdeepsinh Jhala disclosed that the operation was initiated based on technical analysis and human intelligence inputs. Over the past four days, four separate FIRs were filed, leading to the arrest of the 13 accused individuals. The coordinated efforts of the teams, guided by technical and human intelligence inputs, resulted in simultaneous arrests in various districts.
According to the police, 45 bank accounts associated with the accused were verified through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCCRP). This verification unveiled a staggering 982 cyber fraud complaints registered nationwide, with more than 200 FIRs lodged in different states. The total value of fraudulent transactions linked to the network is estimated to exceed Rs 631.86 crore.
