A significant restructuring occurred in the West Bengal state police administration, with 33 IPS officers being transferred and a new state intelligence chief appointed by the Suvendu Adhikari government. Notably, IPS officer Supratim Sarkar was moved from the position of ADG, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), to ADG, Telecommunications, while Natarajan Ramesh Babu has been appointed as the new intelligence chief.
The reshuffle announcement was made from the state secretariat, Nabanna, on Tuesday afternoon. Among the reshuffled officers is K. Jayaraman, known for his integrity, who has been reassigned from ADG, North Bengal Region, to the role of Director, Directorate of Economic Offences, to probe financial corruption during the Trinamool Congress era.
Additionally, IPS officer Vishal Garg has been transferred from ADG, Western Zone, to ADG, Intelligence Bureau (IB), while Praveen Kumar Tripathi, previously the IG of the Special Task Force (STF), has been moved to the Home Guard division as the IG. Tripurari Atharv has been replaced as Bidhannagar Police Commissioner by Rathod Amitkumar Bharat.
Two Additional SPs of Baruipur have also experienced changes, with Pinaki Dutta being replaced by Atish Biswas as Additional SP (Zonal) of Baruipur Police District. The reshuffle follows Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s scrutiny of the police’s handling of a recent rape and murder case in Baruipur, questioning delays in responding to the incident.
