Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the BJP of attempting to distribute leaflets promoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming rally in Kolkata at her protest site in Esplanade. She alleged that this activity was being carried out by an external agency. Banerjee has instructed for those involved in this to be caught red-handed and has directed State Minister Shashi Panja to immediately file a police report.
One individual has already been apprehended for distributing the leaflets. On the fourth day of her protest in Esplanade, Banerjee warned participants about the BJP’s alleged leaflet distribution through external sources. She emphasized the importance of catching them in the act and handing them over to the authorities, stating that they have no authority to interfere in other parties’ events.
Banerjee criticized the BJP, labeling them as a party of cowards and accusing them of targeting Trinamool workers with leaflets. In response, the BJP refuted the allegations during a press conference, denying any involvement in distributing leaflets to the Trinamool workers at the protest site. They defended the right of individuals to express their views and distribute materials, questioning the legitimacy of the Chief Minister’s prolonged protest blocking the road.
