West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state of being manipulated to benefit the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections. She voiced concerns over the removal of voters’ names due to this exercise, asserting that the BJP would not succeed in the elections despite Election Commission support.
Banerjee highlighted the discrepancy of voters who participated in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections being excluded from the current electoral rolls post the SIR process. She questioned the legitimacy of suddenly declaring these voters ineligible after they had previously cast their votes.
Additionally, Banerjee called for an investigation into the resignations of former West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose and former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar. She emphasized the need for transparency regarding the circumstances leading to their premature resignations.
The Chief Minister defended the state government’s handling of President Droupadi Murmu’s event venue change, attributing any mismanagement during the event to the private organizers and the Airports Authority of India, rather than the state government.
