Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, are scheduled to participate in an opposition INDIA bloc gathering on June 8 in New Delhi. Abhishek Banerjee is also expected to appear at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) office in Kolkata on the same day for questioning in a case involving Trinamool Congress lawmakers and alleged signature discrepancies.
Initially summoned for June 1, Abhishek Banerjee requested a 15-day extension citing health reasons following an assault incident on May 30. However, he was served a second notice on June 1 to appear before the CID on June 8. After the West Bengal Assembly election results, Mamata Banerjee announced plans to lead a nationwide movement against the Bharatiya Janata Party, starting with the INDIA bloc meeting in Delhi.
A Trinamool legislator, speaking anonymously, mentioned that key INDIA bloc leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal, and Hemant Soren, expressed support for Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee after the Sonarpur incident. The solidarity among opposition leaders is expected to strengthen further during the upcoming INDIA bloc meeting on June 8.
